The Hmong Community Higher Education Scholarship was established in 2007 by the Hmong American Center (formerly known as the Wausau Area Hmong Mutual Association) with initial support from the Wausau Area Hmong New Year Celebration fund. The primary objective of the scholarship program was to support higher education and reward academic excellence for students of Hmong descent. In 2015, the Hmong Community Higher Education Scholarship committee re-examined the criteria for receiving the scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship would slightly change to not only reward academic excellence but also encourage more Hmong professionals graduating from college to return to the Wausau community.
Education is the key to knowledge and success. The purpose of the Hmong Community Higher Education Scholarship is to award scholarships to outstanding graduating Hmong high school seniors and current college students who are pursuing a college degree. A major purpose of this scholarship is to encourage students of Hmong descent to return to the Wausau community and/or its surrounding areas to reside and to step into professional and leadership roles within the community in ways that (directly or indirectly) positively impact the Hmong community as well as the larger community.
Application Deadline is March 13, 2015, no later than 4:30 p.m. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
